Old Befana is a lovely musical based on an ancient holiday story. A recipe for enchantment, it’s warmth and magic stirs hearts of all ages. A special child is coming... but is it rich or poor, black or white, a boy or a girl? “"Anyone could be the one to make a better worldâ€," Befana sings. "“It could even be... you!â€"
Performed by Kenland PlayersTheater, the show has delighted audiences in Wisconsin, Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota and Michigan annually since 1987. Befana'’s tale has roots that pre-date Christianity, yet she grew to become a ‘Santa-like’ figure in Italian and eastern-European holiday traditions.

Old Befana has been presented at the Madison Childrens Museum as part of our holiday cultural series. Multi-cultural programs are an important educational tool and it is refreshing to present a holiday tale that is secular and free of gender bias. We have numerous requests for Old Befana every year. The story is perfect for our needs because it appeals to all: children laugh and sing along with Ken while adults enjoy a professional and spirited performance.
