If you have Adobe ACROBAT (standard or professional versions): NOTE: If you have other Adobe programs on your computer, such as Photoshop, Illustrator, or InDesign, you should also be able to open/import the PDF file & edit the text. 1. Click on the small poster image or on “Download PDF” (above). The poster should open in your browser window. [[Note: If the poster does not appear in your browser window, right-click (Windows) or click & hold (Mac) & choose “download/save link to disk/computer.” Then skip to step 3.]] 2. Save the file to your computer using the menu (file > save as) or clicking the little disc button in the upper left corner of the Adobe Reader screen. 3. Open your Adobe Acrobat program (not Adobe Reader). 4. Choose file > open from the Acrobat menu & find the name of the poster file. 5. Using Acrobat’s “Text Touch-up” feature, edit the day, date, time and “for more information” areas of the poster for your event. 6. Print it out on your own printer, or take it to a quick-copy place like Kinkos on a disc, and let them print it for you. Be sure to print a test poster before you print the whole batch. If you have Adobe READER (free, “read only” version): • Download a poster by clicking on “PDF” (above). • Save the file to your computer using the menu (file > save as) or the little disc button in the upper left corner of the Adobe Reader screen. • Open Adobe Acrobat. Then, choose "file > open" from the menu & open the poster file. • You'll be able to view and print the poster, but you won’t be able to edit the text. You have a couple options, however: 1. Choose a simple, readable font, such as Helvetica or Arial, and print out the day, date, & time from another program on your computer. Cut & paste it onto the poster with real scissors & glue. Then make multiple copies for posting. 2. You can have a designer or someone at your quick-copy place make the edits for you (they usually have the full version of Adobe Acrobat). Bring the poster to them on a disc, or point them to this web page for the download. • Print a "test" poster before you print the whole batch. • The posters are designed to print on 11x17" or 12x18" paper in the vertical or “portrait” orientation. • The poster image area utilizes the full size of the 11x17" paper. Depending on the printable area your particular laser or inkjet printer offers, you may need to print it out at 90 percent of full size (or choose your "fit on paper" setting) to be sure all of the type prints out properly. • For the black & white posters, consider using a brightly colored paper that still provides enough contrast for the black type to be read from a distance. (Bright yellow & lime green are great choices!) Or, if you’re a teacher with a room full of ambitious kids, they could even color posters printed on white paper with bright markers!
