Awaken CD Released!
Ken has finally released his latest children's music CD!
Awaken! is based on an Aztec folk tale (The Lizard and the Sun), so the ancient culture of Mexico is a key element in the musical; many of the songs are styled after folkloric patterns, and some easily-understood Spanish vocabulary is woven into the songs and rhyming dialogue. The story focuses on the importance of the Sun to all living things, thus encompassing a strong “Earth Day” message. The protagonist (the Lizard) embodies the value of persistence, and proves that even someone very small can make a big difference to the world!

The Gingerbread Man
Ken Lonnquist’s new musical The Gingerbread Man will run November 21 (7 PM), 22 (7 PM) and 23 (2 PM) at the Goodman Community Center on Madison’s near-east side.
Written last fall with young school children, the show follows the familiar story around unexpected twists and turns, incorporating humor and musical surprises. In addition to eight new songs performed by the cast (with Lonnquist and stellar keyboardist Dave Adler as “orchestra”), the production boasts veteran musical theater actors Nelson Zane Eisman (in a menagerie of roles!) and Anne Katz (Old Befana in Lonnquist’s annual holiday production). The Gingerbread Man himself is Sam Taylor, an eleven-year-old tap-dancing and singing sensation.
A short family concert by Lonnquist and Adler will open the show, making it a true “double-feature”!
Ticket prices are $4 for kids and $6 for adults (advance), or $5 and $7.50 (door), and are available at the Goodman Community Center (149 Waubesa St) or by calling Kenland Players Theater at 249-7714. Tickets available at Ken´s Music Store!
The Haunted Disco is Back!
Madison’s Ken Lonnquist will revive his Haunted Disco at The Goodman-Atwood Center on October 24th from 6-9 PM. Kids of all ages (including Parents and Grandparents!) will have a great time. Witches, pumpkins, bats and potions are wrapped into Ken’s humorous songs, and spun out in a style unique to Madison’s long-time favorite family entertainer — recognized again in 2008 as “Best Of Madison”! Tickets available at Ken´s Music Store!
The holiday season is in full swing!
Halloween was a gas! Our new friend, bass player Jon Penner,
played and sang wonderfully in several of those spooky shows.
The “Christmas Witch,” Old Befana, is
getting ready to fly again, and The Kenland
Band will be ringing
in the New Year once more at Monona Terrace for U.S. Bank Eve.
Hope to see you soon!

The Kenland Band
Try to catch a performance of The Kenland
Band this summer—the band is cookin’ with our old pal
David Adler playing his wild and whimsical keyboards, along with
bassist Henry Boehm
and
percussionist
The Amazing
Normco!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Whateverlys
This same line-up comprises a completely
different band—The
Whateverlys perform Ken’s non-children’s songs,
plus songs by Dylan, The Grateful Dead, The Beatles and others. The band
has
a great, mellow sound! Grown-up fans now have a reason
to sneak out and hear some great music that you don’t
have to share with the kids! See
the Calendar to the left for dates & times.
Some day, The Whateverlys will have a website
all their own, too. Stay tuned!
A Ken concert just about guarantees a toe-tappin’,
knee-slappin’, anything-can-happen good time for young and old alike.
His
thoughtful, fun, and catchy original songs span every conceivable
musical
style!
His gift for improvisation keeps audiences
on the edge of their seats. Using his guitar, singing, storytelling and
energetic personality, he’s a sure-fire delight.
Songs about peace, friendship and the environment elbow
for space in a repertoire of musical alligators, snoring mothers, good
manners, Elvis-impersonating
dogs, really fat cats, one speed bikes, messy bedrooms, and... well...
you get the idea!
Even in the sillier songs there persists an ever-present, underlying
good Wis.ll that reaches the youngest heart, connecting the idea of a good
time Wis.th being good to each other and our world.
I
listen to his CDs even when the kids aren’t
in the car!
—Parent, Brookfield, Wis. I’m leavin’, I’m leavin’—
I hope you’ll come along!
I’m leavin’, I’m leavin’—
it’s ‘All Aboard!’ this song!
—Welcome 2 Kenland
